Frequently asked questions about TimeLine Electronics
Can TimeLine Electronics process incomplete customer BOMs from Excel?
Yes. That is exactly what the package was built for. An AI-assisted importer reads the Excel list and maps the columns automatically, even when they are named inconsistently. The AI BOM clearing then identifies the components, even when manufacturer part numbers are missing or technical attributes such as RoHS status, REACH, footprint, package type or voltage have not been specified.
How are distributor prices and availability determined?
TimeLine Electronics connects to the Nexar portal as well as directly to distributors such as Mouser, Digi-Key, Farnell, Arrow and TME, and retrieves prices and availability from them. From this, the system automatically generates a sourcing scenario, either for the best price or the best availability. Minimum order quantities, your own stock, customer-specific blacklists and whitelists and approved alternative components are all taken into account.
How long does it take to quote an assembly?
Instead of hours or days of manual research, the quote is ready in minutes. The path from the incoming customer BOM through component clearing and the sourcing scenario to the finished quote runs end to end in a single system.
Why use an ERP with BOM management when there are specialised tools for it?
Specialised standalone tools offer more depth in particular areas such as lifecycle or risk management, but they have to be connected to an ERP via interfaces. That means two systems, two maintenance contracts, two project teams and an interface that has to be maintained with every update. TimeLine Electronics covers BOM clearing, sourcing, costing, production planning and quality assurance in one system and one data model.
Is end-to-end traceability of the installed components possible?
Yes. Batch and serial number management are part of the package, including packaging management and feedback from production via the shop floor data collection interface. This makes it possible to trace exactly which component from which batch was installed in which assembly.
